drunk blogging
i know other people do it, but this is the first time i've ever done so. i'm not even sure that i have the ffright fingers on the right keys. so i'm typing and not really reading. in any case, this is what happens to me after two (only two, i know!) vodkas and red bulls. or is that vodka and red bulls? i dunno. but hey, the girlfriend thinks i'm a hell of a cheap date and i'm having fun typing this. but i'm cheating, cuz i'm llooking at the keys.
and i just looked up and hey, i spelled girlfriend right! yay!
and it's better thank drunk dialing. of course, i've no one to call save my best friend (who i'm sure is having a party of her own) and my parents, cuz they're the only ones on speed dial on my phone. well, it wouldn't make any sense to drunk dial my girlfriend, since she's sittinga bout 8 feet from me at the moment...
we just got back from a 'cast party' for the choir concerts that we finished tonight. they were fun, but i'm so glad they're over. now i can get back to my seminormal life and have the summer to recuperate. vodka and redbull is GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD.

never, ever, ever, do this
what's "this?"
give me cash. bad idea. i spend it in a heartbeat.
so far, i've managed to purchase a couch, a loveseat, and a pair of shoes. i also got a pedicure yesterday, got waxed, and got my car detailed.
i'm outta control. notice how repentant i am about the whole thing, too.

Painted pearl unlocks secret of Raphael's love
By Clara Ferreira-Marques
Fri Jun 17, 8:09 AM ET
MILAN (Reuters) - The tiny pearl brooch seems an innocuous detail in Raphael's enigmatic "Fornarina" portrait, but for one group of historians it unlocks a scandalous love affair kept secret for centuries.
read the rest of the article here.
so i was an art history minor in school. this is the kind of stuff that really kept me interested in the topic, along with all the architecture i got to study.

this is the whole painting. you can see more of the details talked about in the article.

pet peeve #1,092,009,328,888
i received an email today that was part of a mass mailing from the group that i sing with. i can't tell you how much it bothers me that nobody bothered to check the spelling of Provence. as in that region in southeast France. yeah, we want to impress people by representing ourselves this way. grrrrr

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
to my bestest friend, hope you have a wonderful birthday and about 100 more! love you!!!!
and look, i couldn't find a picture of a non-chocolate birthday cake (that didn't have someone else's name on it) so i'm giving you a birthday cookie instead. i was actually thinking of making you a sign out of baby carrots and celery sticks but i ran out of carrots. that would have been more fun than the cookie or a cake, don't you think?

"news" of the day
so i'm taking a moment to give my $0.02 on current events (well, the events that really matter):
detroit better take at least one game at home if they want to stay in the running.
duh. katie holmes is converting to scientology. who didn't see that one coming?
michael jackson. not guilty. the fans at neverland are crying and they're releasing doves outside the courthouse. now can someone please get this man an extreme makeover? and really, did anyone think he'd be convicted?

weekend of fun
so the girlfriend and i were housesitting for a family we know in pasadena. and what a house it is! 3 stories, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms plus a library, sunroom, two offices, and a yard as big as central park. ok, not really, but huge nonetheless.
i did manage to break the tv in the keeping room though. they've got the whole house wired and have this remote that controls everything from the stereo to the family dog. so i tried to turn on the tv and the cd player went on in the living room. tried to turn off the cd player and lost the dss signal on the 50 inch plasma. sheesh.
we did, however, get to watch the bourne supremacy on the tv in our suite and enjoyed taking the family dog out for walks and playing ball in the huge yard.
i've decided i really do like pasadena. if it wasn't so far from the girlfriend's job (or mine for that matter) and the air wasn't so bad there, i think i'd consider living there. but alas, we've only lived in our place for a year, and i refuse to move for at least another 3, or until we buy our own place.

waste of money or sign of creativity?
i got my vehicle registration renewal notice in the mail today. it also has an application for "specialty plates." i think if you can come up with something clever, these are fun to have. but the people who put their names on them or FASTCAR or something stupid like that are just wasting their money.
here are some favorites. found them here:
1000101 - that's binary for "69."
DR IIII - doctor 4 eyes
IM TAKAI - i am expensive, in japanese.
one of my best friends in high school had the last name "half." their cars all had vanity plates like 1OVER2, POINT5, etc.
i don't think i'd pay the extra money to get one. well, if it was something really clever, then yes. otherwise, no.

is it too femme to wear pink frosted lipstick?
look who's on the cover of this month's allure. well, it's a small picture, but it's ellen. looking, um, weird. or maybe just not herself. in any case, i actually bought the magazine. i used to read beauty/fashion/whatever mags all the time. now i just read rolling stone and the occasional time or newsweek. not that i have time to read much of anything anymore. what with learning music and playing the sims2...

the grossness of it all
i got my hair straightened yesterday, which means i can't wash it til tuesday. or would that be monday? what, exactly, is not washing your hair for three days after? does it start the day you do it or the next day?
friday, saturday, sunday (three days)
saturday, sunday, monday (three days)
i'm so confused! but i don't want to fuck up the $300 i just forked over and have my hair get frizzy and curly again...
and why do i pick the day after i do something like this to clean the bathroom top to bottom?

date night?
tonight the girlfriend and i went to see the gay men's chorus of los angeles' newest offering, their classical ensemble. it's a very small group, comparatively, and a much more intimate venue than the alex theater (usc's alfred newman recital hall).

we enjoyed it a lot and got to sit with many of the other members of GMCLA in attendance.
