it's the little things
the girlfriend and i have communication issues. today, when she called me, i didn't recognize the phone number (she wasn't calling from her office line) and she just started talking. i said, "i'm sorry, do i know you? who are you trying to call?" instead of saying, "hey, dumbass, it's your girlfriend," she said, "i'm trying to call you!!!!"
it took me 10 more seconds to figure out it was her.

grrrrrrrr
Ok, here's the deal. I like to be in the first group to board onto the plane cuz it usually means I get to deplane faster instead of wwaiting for the boneheads in front of me. And I get to the airport early so this usually happens. So today I was wqiting to get on the plane and a nun got in line next to me. Actually, she left her suitcase next to me and went to sit down. Then, when it came time for us to board, she cut in front of me and got on the plane! I know there's no rule that says the line has to be single file, but come on! She just walked in front of me! I felt like saying, "look, sister, the habit doesn't mean you're exempt from waiting your turn like the rest of us." oooh, she made me mad.
So the next time, sister elizabeth fitzpatrick, I won't be so nice!

it seems i've contracted another cold. yay.
i blame it on the temperature change. hot, not so hot, cold at night, hot. just ducky.
on the upside, the giants have beaten the dodgers and lead the series 2-0. yay!

i just laughed out loud about this
i was in the shower and i read the back of the conditioner bottle.
because everyone's a hair different.
bwahahahahaha. i don't know why that's so funny to me. actually, aussie hair products has a pretty amusing website. if you enjoy that tongue in cheek kind of humor.
ok, i guess it's funny cuz i'm a bit tired. i rearranged the office a bit, and organized most of it. then the girlfriend came home and freaked out. i tried to explain that i didn't throw anything away but she had to go lie down anyway. sheesh.
still, we managed to label all the cords under her desk and plug in the laser printer so she can print from her computers again. now if we could only get our network sorted out, i would be happy with our office.

zelda rubinstein has a new job

she works the phone lines at t-mobile. no joke. i just talked to her. i guess movies just aren't enough for her anymore. for those of you who don't recognize her, she played tangina barrons in poltergeist, you know, "carol ann, don't go towards the light!"
see, i got a replacement for my ipaq, which was laid to rest last week. i plugged the "new" one in, and one of the menus didn't work. so, i had to call t-mobile again and i got to speak to ms. rubinstein.
zelda: thank you for calling t-mobile, this is zelda, how can i help you today?me: my replacement phone isn't working correctly.
zelda: oh no! well, let's just see what we can do about that.
me: um, you could send me a phone that works.
zelda: well, we most certainly could, and have you been a good little munchkin?
(ok, i added that last part, but it really was her, i swear!)

a story of my childhood
when i was 4 we lived in a house that had a door leading from the backyard into the garage, which was detached from the main part of the house. in essence, you could walk through the garage to the driveway and the front door. my brother and i used to prowl the backyard, collecting snail shells in mayonnaise jars, inchworms on leaves in mom's old tupperware or margarine tubs, stuff like that.
i came home from school one day and decided to head out to the backyard. it must have been early spring because i was wearing a skirt and red knit socks that i pulled to my knees (we'll get into my childhood wardrobe at another time, i promise). i had taken off my shoes at some point, god knows where they landed. in any case, i was coming through the garage door to get another container to hold another bug when i heard a crunch, then felt something slimy oozing up between my toes. i had stepped on a snail. it felt odd having at once the hardness of the shell under my foot combined with the cold, wet and oddly sticky mess of snail carcass.
it was relatively dark in the garage and i couldn't really see anything, so i picked up my foot, slid off my sock, left it on top of the dead snail and ran out.
these days when i see a snail on the sidewalk or, well, anywhere, really, i have this creepy sensation of it crawling up my back or crunching under my foot. it's all i can do not to scream and run from the thing. we went to collect some recycling from the girlfriend's mom's house and there were snails on the bags and i had to stay on the driveway while they knocked off the buggers and put the bags in the car. then the girlfriend's mom was crushing the snails on the lawn and i had to run out into the street to avoid the sound and utter grossness of it all.
but really, it's not something that bothers me all that much. i mean, they could be cockroaches, but they're snails. they're outdoors. i don't spend much time outdoors.

my new favorite tv show
ok, so it'll never replace extreme makeover: home edition in my heart, but it's really cool.
it's mission: organization on hgtv. i love it! all these people getting their rooms and homes reorganized and cleaned and painted. if only someone would come and do my office! i can't stand it!
anyway, i liked this show about a home office redo...

i killed my phone
remind me not to talk on my phone for more than a few minutes at a time. tonight i noticed that my phone was rather warm so i took the battery out to try and let it cool down and now it won't turn on. piece of shit.
i'm on the phone with "customer service" right now.
CSR: did you move the button on the back of the phone to the green position, locking the battery into place? it will not function unless it's locked.me: uh, yeah. i do have a college degree, after all.

why insurance companies suck
and if you work for one i apologize, but they do suck.
at one point in time, it was necessary to put the girlfriend on my health insurance. it's no longer needed, and i have to get her taken off my policy. so blue cross has 23490854890432890 forms to fill out just to decline coverage for her. only i don't know exactly what's relevant and what's not. so if i fill out every form and every line, do you think they'll just take her off? i'm hoping so.

stupidmotherfuckergoddamnedbrowser
crashed on me after i finished my post but before i saved it. fucker.
so anyway, i have decided that i'm a messy person trapped in an obsessive-compulsive, anal retentive person's body.
i can't seem to keep my house clean no matter how hard i try. i'd hire someone to come clean it, but it seems senseless to do that when all i have to do is get off my ass and pick up the shit that's all over the floor and my desk and our room.
and i've decided that my girlfriend is a hoarder. like those women on oprah. only she's not as bad as them, she wouldn't let the dog shit on the floor and not pick it up. i'm being serious here, but let's not get her too angry at me for saying it on my blog.
so here, decide if you have a hoarding problem:
Do you have a compulsive hoarding problem?

i need a new desk
mine has become overrun with stuff. shitloads of stuff.
if i get a new one, i can just put it next to the old one, right? no cleaning off of the old one to make room for the new...

i got a new battery
for my ipaq. the extended one, so hopefully it won't die on me while i'm in the 7th hour of my 8 hour workday.
the girlfriend ordered it for me thursday afternoon, and it was supposed to be fedex'd to me by 10:30 the next morning. well, i showed up where it was supposed to be and the lady behind the counter said, "it's not here." so i went home, looked it up online, and then called her back and said, "yes, it's there, you signed for it." at which point she actually looked at the packages and went, "oh. uh oh. here it is."
i don't think she should work there anymore. let alone own the goddamn place.

sensory overload
i'm in vegas. again. trying to find my happy place at dinner. it's so fucking noisy in here i think my brain is going to explode. and did i ever tell you that i don't like drunk people if i'm not drinking?
especially drunk people at a bachelorette party with penis straws in their drinks. feh.

i need to know
if i'm the only one who thinks this is strange:
german shepherd dog
i mean, isn't that redundant? or are we separating the canine from the deutschman who keeps his flock in the hills overlooking that convent that fraulein maria came from?
wanna know what else?
ink pen. as in, "yo, lemme see that ink pen for a second."
my friend says that all the time. doesn't "pen" imply ink? ok, so not vice versa, but don't we all know that pens contain ink? weird.

cuz i'm the only one...
in the room at the moment. i'm eating pistachios (but hopefully this won't be all i eat for dinner) and peeling off the "skin" before i put them in my mouth. i really like them better when all i'm eating is the green nut, not the stuff that's covering the green.
i also peel the skin off citrus--grapefruits, oranges, etc. to get to the pulp. i could never have an orange in my lunch at school because it took the entire lunch period to peel it before i could eat it.
incidentally, did you know that if you have a bloated, gassy feeling in your middle you should take two bites of an orange rind? at least this is according to the girlfriend's mother.
there's no way i would ever do this. i'd rather explode, i think. can't stand bitter stuff like that.

stomach growling...
i'm hungry and apparently woke up on the wrong side of the bed. i'm grouchy. grumpy. irritable.
what am going to eat for breakfast? maybe some nails.
and i was supposed to audition this weekend. but we're going to vegas. it's ok though. if i'm not going to get the solo i want, i'm not going to try. how's that for circular reasoning?
i'm not making any sense. did i mention i'm grouchy?

the weirdness of things
chocolate is a wonderful thing. almost its own food group. it can be sweet or bitter, dark or white. and i think i love it all.
except maybe mole. i don't know about chocolate on my chicken. but gimme a good ganache and it's just heaven. or ice cream. or fudge.
must go in search of some candy...or maybe a more nutritonal breakfast.

sneeze. snore. spend.
such was my weekend in vegas. just got back, started the laundry, unpacked all the stuff the girlfriend took from the hotel.
the cleaning fairies didn't visit while we were away, as much as i was hoping they would. so there's vacuuming to be done, mail to be sorted, and desks to be cleaned.
wynn, by the way, looks a whole lot like the bellagio. except for the ferraris. i'd link their site, but it takes fucking forever to load the damn thing.
