at least i'm good at something.
and that something is being allergic. apparently, i win the prize today of being the most allergic person in the doctor's office. at least that's what my test results show.
just what kind of tests do they do? i'm so glad you asked. they mark your back with however many things they want to test on your body (in my case it was 62) and then they stick you with little pins that have the allergen on the tip. 62 times they stick you. then you wait 15 minutes and they come to evaluate you. within 30 seconds i had to sit on my hands to not scratch my back. you know the kind of itch you get that's so bad you'll cry if you don't scratch it? ever had one of those? try having 40+ of them at once. and 15 minutes? an eternity when all you can think about is how itchy your back is. i managed to IM and send emails to two different people, sharing with them just how itchy i was. i think i was pretty smart. the entire email consisted of "ITCHY!!!!!!!"
good thing the allergist came back early. a whole 4 minutes, but at least it was early. she was amazed at the welts on my back. it turns out i'm extremely sensitive to certain kinds of things. air, for instance. every pollen they tested for had a reading of "highly" to "very highly" allergic. that's 32 kinds of pollen. she actually wrote, "highly allergic to outdoors." now where was that when i was in school for P.E.? or when my dad made me go camping? and then the doctor said, "i wish we had the mirror set up in here so you could see these welts." yeah, just what i want to see. shoulda taken a picture, though.
let's not mention the cat allergies, ok? very highly allergic is not fun when you love animals. at least the dog allergies were only mildly allergic.
so now it's a choice: i can take pills every day to control my allergies--there's never going to be a time when there's not pollen in the air--or i can start shots once a week. for six months. after that it'd go down to once every 3 or 4 weeks. for 4-5 years. eek. that's a real committment.
and i'm not even going to go into the dentist's visit this morning. maybe later.
UPDATE: did i mention that scarlett johansson was filling out papers in the waiting room when i was checking out of the office? what a strange world i live in.

Awww, that sucks! I was allergic to everything when I was young, but I've grown out of the majority of my respitory and food allergies. Untik I was 4, I was allergic to wheat, bran, oats, milk, chocolate, every kind of nut, etc. Now I can eat whatever I want, though I do get itchy when I eat nuts, and I don't mean testicles, lol. Still, I gotta have some honey roasted peanuts every once in a while!
I still get sneezy in May and June, and it's so not fun. I hope you don' need to get shots for the next 4-5 years!

jr, i can either do the shots for 4-5 years or take allergy medication daily for like the rest of my life. i've not yet decided what to do.

I'm feeling sickly too... and I am sure it's allergies. I have never been diagnosed though. I'm afraid to see how bad it is.

you should get tested, rcktman. at least you'd know, you know? of course, you could find out you're allergic to air, like me, and then be in the same place you started: on daily meds and mostly uncomfortable anywhere but a clean room.
