i’ve been watching the olympics. 8 hours a day. i love summer vacation, but i’ve not been outside except to get the mail since tuesday. oh, i did take some stuff to out of the closet yesterday but otherwise i’ve pretty much been a shut in. and since there’s a 15 hour time difference between me and china (it’s very personal at this point) i haven’t even been reading the news for fear of getting olympics results before i’ve had a chance to watch the competitions on Tivo.
yesterday i made a gigantic mudpie. i took a bunch of damp soil, put it in a pyrex dish and baked it to try and avoid the stupid gnats i get when i plant stuff. only my really cheap oven doesn’t do stuff like “bake at 160 degrees for 30 minutes.” so i had to bake at what i assume is close to 150-175 (somewhere to the left of the 200 degree marking, since that’s the lowest temperature displayed) for 45 minutes. then i planted The Girlfriend’s latest experiment, an avocado pit that’s been growing in a cup for about 6 weeks. hopefully this one won’t die like her last experiment. we’re also attempting to grow a peach tree from a pit, which i’ve read is not the smartest thing to do but we have 15 peach pits from some really good peaches (thanks, t!) and so we’re seeing what happens. those of you who know me well will be surprised at the fact that i played with dirt, i know. but it was kinda fun. except the part where i got it under my fingernails.
today i’m going to miss some of the competition because i’m driving up to my mom’s house. The Girlfriend and i are going to visit my parents and then The GIrlfriend has to come back to work on monday and i’m staying a bit longer to do some work on my mom’s house. just easy stuff like installing baseboard and maybe puttting in a line for her directv into her room, where there’s a tv but no feed. oh, and some painting.
what sucks right now is i don’t know what tools i’ll need for the job(s) so i think i have to take the majority of them, which is going to really cut down on the already puny mileage my car gets. sigh. at least gas is a little less expensive than it was 2 weeks ago…
she’s a little bit tired. i had a migraine and so i was LAME and couldn’t drive today.
we got here, we checked into our hotel, and the girlfriend thought she saw two ducks (”like the one from the AFLAC commercial”) walking across the lobby.
and if the title of that post doesn’t get me some hits i don’t know what will. anyway.
today The Girlfriend went to work and i stayed home. i know, totally surprising, right? so, as i was saying, i was home, minding my own business and taking care of some business in the bathroom (showering and drying off, thankyouverymuch) when i noticed something was not quite right. actually, a few things were not quite right. i’m a big believer in a clean, well organized bathroom and when things aren’t clean and organized i get a little wigged out. now, i’m not saying that things don’t get left out when i’m in a hurry (does a hot curling iron count if i unplug it and leave while it’s still hot and can’t be put away? huh? does it?) but The Girlfriend takes the freaking cake when it comes to the organization of the bathroom.
today, she opened the drawer, got out the toothpaste, put it on her toothbrush, put the toothpaste back in the drawer, and didn’t close the drawer. then, she proceeded to finish brushing her teeth and left toothpaste smears in the sink. then she splashed water onto my almost new caulking on the counter and didn’t wipe it up. and somewhere along the way she managed to open up the medicine cabinet and leave it open while she went on her merry way to spread chaos in the rest of my little world. niiiiiiiiiiice.
wanna know the worst part of it all? she doesn’t even know she does these things. doesn’t see them at all. how do i get mad at her for that? i don’t get mad, just frustrated and well maybe a little peeved.
and i post this to embarrass her, for sure, but also so that maybe, just maybe, she’ll start to notice and once in a while take part in the fun i like to call “keeping the bathroom user friendly.”
i’ve no idea what i’ve been doing, but my thumbs are not working right. in the past it’s been a matter of overuse (removing wallpaper, for example, renders my thumbs useless for weeks) and then not slacking off with their usage (hitchhiking to school is how i save money on gas, after all) so it goes on for months. but this time? i dunno but they’re non-functioning digits. can’t even lift up my diet coke–it’s the gripping and lifting that is not there.
apparently i can still hit the space bar just fine and as of yet it has not affected my sudoku or sims2 playing.
just nothing going on. sleeping a lot. playing the sims 2.
researching earplugs so that i don’t kill the child living next door. the parents of said child let it scream and throw tantrums when the people whose bedroom window is along the semi-shared driveway are pleasantly asleep. would it be rude to yell out the window when stuff like that’s going on? would it be more impolite to leave a muzzle on their front porch?
yesterday we (and by we i mean the girlfriend, since i sleep with earplugs) were awakened at the ungodly hour of 8am by someone throwing things off our roof. and since the fans were on in the window, a nice covering of black dirt on the floor and every surface of our room. gross. and i breathed it in while i continued to sleep for another three hours. the girlfriend is not going to live that down for a while. i’m grumpy and unforgiving. until i do something really annoying to her later. like poke her in the head for about 20 minutes.
anyway, apparently they’re replacing the roof or the gutters or something. and apparently, my landlord didn’t see any point in alerting us to that fact. so we have a layer of grime on everything we own, because we didn’t know to keep the windows closed. and i’ve had to up my asthma meds since i can’t breathe. makes me a very happy camper! i’m such a joy to be around when i don’t feel good.
i spent most of yesterday doing laundry and cleaning the bedroom. the office is a lost cause. i also had to sweep off the back porch, since it was covered in 1/2 an inch of dirt.
dude, i love the fact that we have a very hands-off landlord, but sheesh, this is beyond hands-off.
